Sen. Soucek & Rep. Jordan

Friends:

First Soucek, and now it’s Jordan.

Boone residents, your water intake project, the one you approved by 73% in 2008 by referendum, the one that’s days away from finally being granted a permit, is now threatened by a “kill bill” introduced by Rep. Jonathan Jordan of Ashe County.

As you’ve heard us say so many times, water is the key to responsible growth and the future economic vitality of Boone. We cannot grow without water. All development, whether commercial or residential, will come to a halt if this bill passes.

Our state-of-the-art, environmentally sound water intake project has support from the National Committee for the New River, the Watauga County Commission, the Boone Town Council, the Boone area development community, and at least 73% of Boone voters.

Like Soucek last week, Jordan has NOT contacted anyone with the Town of Boone to let us know he would be filing this bill. We asked Soucek and Jordan for their support for the project just weeks after they were elected. As of our last conversation, he gave no indication he opposed the project and was quoted in local media saying he was ”studying the issue.”

Call Rep. Jordan at (919)733-7727 and ask him to pull this bill. These calls WORKED last week on Sen. Soucek’s ETJ elimination bill, and we need you to call again. If you don’t call Jordan, MAKE SURE you call Speaker Thom Tillis at (919)733-3451 and let his staff know you oppose this bill. We will have more calls to make once the bill is assigned to committee later today.

Thank you so much for standing up for your community the way you have in recent days.

Andy Ball
