WHAT: An organized infusion of economic stimulus into two local businesses (a “cash mob”)

WHEN: Saturday, July 28th, starting at 11 a.m. Lunch at 1 p.m.

WHERE: Village Hardware, 312 Green St., Blowing Rock NC 28605 and Papa Joe’s Italian-American Restaurant, 8062 Hwy 321, Blowing Rock NC 28605

The Watauga County Democratic Party is organizing a “cash mob” that will visit two Blowing Rock businesses on Saturday, July 28.

Village Hardware and Papa Joe’s have been chosen because both businesses have suffered a down-turn due to the construction on Hwy 321 through Blowing Rock. The “cash mob” will be at Village Hardware at 11 a.m. on the 28th, followed by lunch at Papa Joe’s.

A “cash mob” is a way to encourage people to go into small, local businesses and spend their money as a group to give the business owners a little bit of economic stimulus.

“Cash mobs” are a part of a national trend to “buy local.” The first such organized cash mob occurred in August of 2011 in Buffalo, N.Y., and has since spread to many other states.

“This is just another effort on our part to build community and help our neighbors,” said WataugaDems Volunteer Coordinator Marsha Walpole. “We hope to do these cash mobs on a regular basis all over Watauga County.”
