Rev. Paul Lowe Jr., pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, was elected Saturday morning, August 18, as the new chair of the redrawn 5th Congressional District of North Carolina.
Previous 5th District Chair David Crawford of Surry County was drawn out of the district by the NC General Assembly’s redistricting. Lowe was elected to finish Crawford’s term.
Lowe will serve until May 2013 when a new Chair election will be held for a two-year term. Rev. Lowe had been serving as 2nd Vice Chair of the 5th District.
Rev. Lowe was active in speaking out against the anti-gay Amendment 1 back before the May primary, saying it was a Republican strategy to divide the black electorate over the issue.
