The Watauga County Democratic Party “cash mobbed” another two Watauga County local businesses on Saturday, August 25, as a part of their “buy local” project. (Lonnie Webster photo, below.)
The owner of the Appalachian Antique Mall in downtown Boone (also see below) reported that the “mob” spent “just under $2,000” in her establishment – “It’s the best morning we’ve ever had,” she said – and then some 71 shoppers went to lunch at the Mountain House, a local landmark eatery that has recently been forced out of its old space by a national chain.
Watauga County native Iva Dean Winkler celebrated her 101st birthday with the “cash mob” at The Mountain House. The restaurant owner posted a large sign in her front window thanking the Watauga County Democrats for supporting local businesses.
The next cash mob will be announced in September. Anyone may nominate a local business for “mobbing” by writing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Received Sunday, Aug. 26:
The turnout, enthusiasm and support of everyone in the Watauga Democratic Party Cash Mob who came to the Appalachian Antique Mall was outstanding and greatly appreciated by all our dealers and employees. Plus, it was an excellent event for downtown Boone, stimulating business and exposing retailers to new customers. What a fun and positive experience for all. Thank you again for planning this.
